Syro Malabar Community

St Chavara Community — faith, family and liturgy in the East Syriac tradition.

St Chavara Community

About the community

The Syro-Malabar Catholic community is part of parish life in New Plymouth, gathering in the East Syriac tradition that has nourished the Church in Kerala for centuries.

The St Chavara Community is a small, vibrant Syro Malabar community from Kerala that strives to live the missionary values of St Chavara Achan. Our chaplain, Fr Vijoy, is affiliated to the Diocese of Palmerston North, and we currently have over 100 registered families.

We hold a Malayalam Mass once every month. Fr Vijoy from the Diocese of Palmerston North is our community chaplain.
