Looking Ahead

New Parish Centre

A new Parish Centre at St Joseph’s Church — expanded hospitality, modern offices, and improved accessibility for our growing parish community.

The project

To support the needs of a growing parish community, plans are underway for a new Parish Centre at St Joseph’s Church. The project aims to provide expanded hospitality space for parish gatherings, funerals, and events, as well as modern office and administration facilities for parish staff and clergy.

The proposed development includes increasing church seating capacity, improving heating and ventilation, enlarging the foyer and hospitality areas, and integrating a new administration centre under the same roof. The design will also improve accessibility by connecting the church and lower hall facilities with a lift and internal staircase.

A place to call home

Te Pārihi Katorika ki Ngāmotu is a diverse community of believers, united in faith in Jesus Christ and a shared journey beneath the majestic presence of Mount Taranaki.

Everyone is welcome to visit, to pray, and to reflect. We weave the heritage of Aotearoa into our worship and life together, that each person might encounter the love of God and find belonging.

Our Vision · Ō Tātou Moemoeā

See how they love one another

We dream of a parish gathered around Jesus Christ — where love spills far beyond our walls and draws others to encounter Him.

The vision for our parish is

a community called by God
for missional discipleship.

Gathered around Jesus Christ, fed with the Eucharist, and sent to transform lives empowered by the Holy Spirit.

We are sent to share the love of Jesus to those who do not know Him — bringing all to the encounter with Jesus Christ.

Living the moemoeā

Six pillars of our vision

How worship, evangelisation, discipleship, community, ministry and leadership take flesh in parish life.

01 · Worship

Whakamoemiti

Worship is the primary purpose of the Church — the source and summit of all we do. We gather for prayerful, vibrant Sunday Mass, believe in the Real Presence, and seek beauty, hospitality and Adoration that draw us into encounter with Jesus.

02 · Evangelisation

Te Hora Karaitianatanga

We answer God’s call to “go and make disciples.” Empowered by the Holy Spirit, we share the kerygma — God’s Love Story — invite others to come and see, and channel parish life toward evangelisation.

03 · Discipleship

Ponongatanga

Ongoing formation — human, spiritual, intellectual and pastoral — helps us become saints. Small groups, RCIA, courses and retreats form intentional discipleship pathways for every age.

04 · Community

Hapori

We are a divine household where all belong — a community of communities and family of families. Schools, domestic churches and small groups help us love one another as a lighthouse to New Plymouth.

05 · Ministry

Mīhana

Every parishioner is called to serve — discovering gifts, caring for the homebound and elderly, welcoming every culture, and reaching the poor and vulnerable through Caritas and St Vincent de Paul.

06 · Leadership

Kaihautūtanga

Leaders discern with the Holy Spirit, grow a leadership pipeline, and work with the Parish Pastoral Council, Leadership Team and teams so gifts are called forth for the Body of Christ.
